how to measure - Collars

STANDARD COLLAR:
To make sure your dog’s collar fits just right — not too tight, not too loose — here’s how to measure:

  1. Neck circumference
Use a soft measuring tape to measure around your dog’s neck where the collar normally sits.
➝ Think of it like a belt: the collar should sit snugly, but not squeeze.

A good rule of thumb? You should be able to comfortably slide two fingers between the measuring tape and your dog’s neck. That’s your perfect collar size! Our collars are adjustable in size, so there is room for adjustment.

PULLSTOP COLLAR:
To find the right size for your dog’s pull-stop collar, you’ll need two measurements:

  1. Neck circumference (minimum size)
Use a soft measuring tape to measure around the narrowest part of your dog’s neck — where the collar will sit when it's snug.
➝ Make sure the tape is close to the skin, but not tight. This measurement is the smallest size the collar will adjust to.

  2. Head circumference (maximum size)
Next, measure around the widest part of your dog’s head — usually just in front of the ears.
➝ This is the largest size the collar needs to expand to, so it can slip over your dog’s head comfortably. Make sure it’s not too tight here either.

That’s it! These two measurements make sure the collar fits just right: snug when worn, but easy to put on and take off.

HARNESS:

Our harnesses are designed for comfort, freedom of movement, and a secure fit
whether you're looking for a classic style or extra safety with a 6-point security harness.

Before ordering, take the following measurements using a soft tape measure. You’ll need:

  • 1–4 for our standard harness

  • 1–6 if you're choosing our security harness with a second belly strap

1. Chest Front (Sternum to Back)
Measure from the top of the sternum (the center of your dog’s chest) back between the front legs to where the harness will sit.
➝ The Y-shaped front should sit on the sternum, not the throat, to allow your dog’s shoulders full freedom of movement. It sits lower than a collar would.

2. Belly Strap (Behind Front Legs)
Measure around your dog’s body, just behind the front legs where the belly strap will rest.
➝ The strap should fit snugly — you should be able to slide two fingers between the tape and your dog’s body, just like with a collar.

3. Back Piece (Between Neck and Belly Strap)
This connects the front chest piece (1) to the belly strap (2).
➝ Make sure it’s long enough to give your dog full shoulder movement, but not so long that it shifts too far back.

4. Chest Strap (Under the Chest)
This horizontal strap runs under the chest, connecting the belly and front straps.
➝ It should sit far enough from the front legs to avoid rubbing, but close enough so the belly strap stays securely in front of the last rib when tension is applied.

Extra Measurements for the Security Harness

5. Second Back Piece (to Rear Belly Strap)
This strap runs from the first belly strap to where the second belly strap will sit, just behind the ribs.
➝ The goal is to position the second strap after the last rib, ideally at the narrowest part of the waist, for extra escape-proof security.

6. Rear Belly Strap
Measure around the waist where the second strap will sit.
➝ This strap should be very snug — it helps prevent the harness from being pulled over your dog’s head if they panic or try to back out.

Tips:

  • Take measurements while your dog is standing for best accuracy

  • Double-check your measurements — a snug, well-fitted harness is key to comfort and safety

  • If you're unsure which size to choose, just send us your dog's measurements — we’re happy to help!
